Oudtshoorn Mayor Welcomes Visitors as the Cycling Road Race Begins PDF Print E-mail

sf_cycling_smallThe Executive Mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn alderman Gordon April has welcomed 360 cyclists from all over the country during the opening ceremony that was held at the De Jager Sport Centre, on Monday, 27 June.

Alderman April also welcomed all visitors, organisers of the different federations and thanked the organisers for putting up such “a successful event”.

“It is a wonderful privilege to welcome you all from your respective provinces to Oudtshoorn. Oudtshoorn is known to hosing a number of festivals – and I want to assure you that we will give you the best hospitality and may you enjoy your stay here. Let’s join hands and make this festival a great success,” he said.

Various board members of the Cycling South Africa (CSA) were also in attendance of the opening and the prize giving ceremonies.

Mr. Roger Bouton, the Director for Transformation and Development in the Cycling South Africa (CSA) thanked the organisers and the Oudtshoorn Municipality for organising such a “fantastic event”. “The support for the Sport festival is amazing and we are hoping that the festival will continue for the next 20 years,” Bouton added.

 The cyclists who participated in the Cycling Road Race which started at 08:00 hail from Western Province, South Western District (SWD), Boland, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Free State and Gauteng.

Winners who already completed their races from various categories were awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals in a medal presentation ceremony which was held just after the opening ceremony.
